We are excited that you have come to visit us.
The word "covenant" is usually associated with Biblical writings - God's covenant with the Israelite people and God's covenant with humankind in Jesus. God makes these covenants, these promises, that are His guarantees for eternity. These promises will never be broken. While we can't compare to the awesome, unfailing power of God, we do intend to follow through on our promise of world class coffee. Part of that promise is our committment to those who provide the coffee to us.
We are passionate about the coffee we roast and we hope that you find a roast that fits your taste. We have spent a great deal of time putting together a selection of coffees. Right now, it is somewhat small, but we intend to add to it as we grow.
Our desire is to affect everyone from the grower, to the harvesters, to the importers, and our customers. We purchase our coffee from an importer who shares our passion for good coffee and at the same time gives back to the communities and people who produce the coffee we so enjoy.
At Covenant Roasters we roast small batches as needed to supply the needs of our customer. This allows us to provide a fresh and quality roasted bean to you with each and every pound that you purchase.
The coffees have a variety of labels: Fair Trade, USDA Organic, as well as what we will call "relationship coffee".
Fair Trade coffee is certified to meet certain criteria. The purpose of Fair Trade is an attempt to provide some form of guarantee that the producers, the workers and the communities receive some advantage from the sale of the coffee.
USDA Organic certifies that the coffee has been produced and handled in a specific manner. USDA Organic certified coffee says that it meets USDA standards.
"Relationship coffee" is where Covenant Roasters, or the importer we purchased the coffee from, has a personal relationship with a grower or exporter. We know these people are investing money back into the communities where those who work in the fields live.
Many people shy away from drinking coffee because they think it is unhealthy. Actually just the opposite is true. The Harvard Health Publications, part of the Harvard School Medical School, has published some findings that talks about the health benefits.
